The Evolution of Swingbelly’s
Swingbelly’s has been a Michigan City staple since 1983, when Mark A. Werner transformed an old laundromat into a thriving family-style restaurant. In 2002, Mark partnered with friends and employees Bret and Natalie Palmer to relocate to a historic train station at 100 Washington Street, where the original brick and hardwood floors perfectly complemented the restaurant’s nautical decor.
The journey continued in 2014 when Swingbelly’s moved to a newly renovated space, formerly “Ye Olde Bennys.” Mark’s son, M.J. (Mark Justin), brought fresh ideas and talents to the table, and together they created a new and improved Swingbelly’s, complete with a bar and curated selection of craft beers, wines, and specialty cocktails.
Today, Swingbelly’s remains dedicated to preserving its legacy while evolving to exceed the expectations of its valued guests. We invite you to be a part of our ongoing story and experience the warmth, charm, and delicious flavors that make Swingbelly’s a true Michigan City institution.
